The Westin Resort & Spa, Cancun
Boulevard Kukulcan KM 20, Cancun, Quintana Roo, 77500, Mexico

The Westin Resort & Spa, Cancun is a Category 3 SPG property located at the lower end of the Zona Hotelara (Hotel Zone) in Cancun. The hotel is only 12 km from the airport and the first hotel one would come across when arriving at the hotel zone from the airport. A free night at the hotel costs 7,000 SPG points.

We arrived at the hotel early in the morning as we were flying in red-eye from Los Angeles. The hotel front desk agent was very courteous and efficient. She upgraded us from a “Lagoon-view” room to an “Ocean-view” room which we appreciated very much. Being SPG Gold,  I was also offered 250 SPG points as well as 2 complimentary drinks at the bar as welcome amenity. She let us know that the room was not ready yet and to check back at around 11 am. We left the luggage with the front desk and went checking out the beach.

We were given the keys at 11 AM as promised. The hotel is only 4 floors and we got the 3rd floor. Only the rooms in the 4th floor as well as the 1st floor have balcony.

The bed is really comfortable and does deserve the moniker “Heavenly® Bed” that Westin advertises.

Bathroom

We loved the floor-to-ceiling glass windows that gave us a great view of the beach side of the hotel zone.

Loving the view from the room

The hotel has quite a few outdoor pools on its property. By my count, there were at least 2 on the Nichupte Lagoon side as well as there was a main pool by the beach and there were a few shallow smaller pools for kids.

The hotel also provides large number of beach chairs and umbrellas.

Lots of beach chairs available for resort guests

One of the really nice things about this resort is the sea turtles lay eggs right beside it on the beach. While walking on the beach in the mornings during the entire stay we saw some workers dig out the turtle eggs from the sand and carry them to cordoned off area in the property that serve as hatcheries for the turtle eggs.

Also on one night during our stay, we walked on the beach right across the resort and came across 2 different turtles laying their eggs in the sand. It was very exciting.

Thumbs up:

  • Front desk honored my SPG status and awarded me both 250 SPG points as well as 2 complimentary drinks as amenity for stay.
  • Nice well-maintained resort.
  • Complimentary in-room wifi (for SPG elites) and complimentary lobby wifi (for everyone) works really well.
  • The entrance to the hotel is only 3 minute walk to the bus stop where you can go up the hotel zone using public transportation.

Thumbs down:

  • The hotel is at the furthermost end of the hotel zone and away from any mall or restaurants. For dining & shopping options you have to use some sort of transportation if you don’t want to be resort captive.
