Flight:  United Airlines 102 from Houston to Munich

Duration: 10 hours 20 minutes

Aircraft: B763 (Boeing 767 – 300)

Class: Business

Seat: 2A – 2B

Seat Specification: Flat bed seats, Seat pitch: 75″. Seat width: 21″

United operates a Boeing 767-300 ER (2 Class Configuration) on Houston – Munich route. There are 30 Business class seats with 6 rows of 2 x 1 x 2 configuration. Since we were flying as family we selected the window-aisle seats instead of the middle single seat.

Karen’s seat – 3A
Me and Karen in 3A – 3B
My parents in 4A – 4B

The seats are fine if you are traveling with a family member but if traveling alone I would prefer to have the middle seat with direct aisle access to avoid having to cross over the seat mid-flight.

Both the flight attendants serving our aisle were very courteous and sweet. Post takeoff they started the meal service right away but not before they offered us some Belgian chocolates.

Before takeoff our flight attendant had requested us to choose a second preference for the entree in case our first preference is not available (not loaded on the flight in enough quantities!!).

Warm nuts to start
Seared Tuna and Kale, Salad
My Entree – Char siu Duck
Risotto (Yucky!!)

My first choice (Beef short ribs) was not available and so I got the duck. It was so-so. I did not care for the swiss chard and the duck was not flavorful at all. On the other hand Karen returned the Risotto right away as it was apparently very bad and so did my Mom. The flight attendant went back to the galley and got the duck for Karen.

Dessert – Cheese Plate
Ice-cream and Pie

After dinner I decided to watch a movie after converting the seat to bed.

By the time the movie finished there was only about 6 hours left to Munich and decided to sleep. The Saks blanket was very comfortable and I enjoyed sleeping in it.

Ready for a good night sleep !!

By the time me and Karen woke up we were only about an hour and half out of Munich. For breakfast, Karen had the fruit plate with cereals and I had the southwestern omelette with sausage.

Bottomline:

Seat: ***1/2

Service: *****

Food: **

The seats are lie-flat and that is the only good thing about it. For long haul flights, I prefer configurations that have all seats with direct aisle access. The seats also felt sort of narrow although I did not have any issues with the length of the seats.

I was very happy with the service provided by the flight attendants on this flight. Both the flight attendants serving our aisle were very nice and courteous and cheerful throughout the flight. I know United gets a bad rep especially regarding crew service but this was not the case on this flight at least.

The worst part about this flight was definitely the food. My duck was bland and the sides were inedible. Karen (and Mom’s) Risotto was so horrible that both of them returned it right away !! We also got our second choices which is the first time I have experienced in a Business class (asking for first and second choice).
