Flight:  Singapore Airlines 2 from Hong Kong to San Francisco

Duration: 12 hours 45 minutes

Aircraft: B773 (Boeing 777 – 300ER)

Seat: 1A

Singapore Airlines operates a Boeing 777-300ER on its Hong Kong to San Francisco route. The current configuration features only a single row of First Class Seats in 1 x 2 x 1 layout whereas a few years ago I flew same route with 2 rows of First Class. The suites are open (without doors) although there is plenty of privacy when you are seated.

The seat is very wide and comfortable. The only downside is that you have to get up to convert the seat to bed mode by flipping the back cushion instead of just pressing a button as in most other airlines.

I declined the pre-flight champagne and opted to have one right after takeoff. Singapore serves both Dom Perignon and Krug in first class and I went with the latter.

Chestnut Veloute

I have always gone with Singapore Airlines “Book the Cook” option whenever it is offered and this time was no exception. I had pre-booked the pan-fried Lamb Rack with Mustard Rosemary Sauce, and it was delicious.

After dinner I requested the flight attendant for turn down service.

I slept soundly for about 6 hours and after waking up watched a movie.

Breakfast service started about 2 hours before landing. I was not feeling particularly hungry so just requested fresh fruit plate and scrambled eggs with bacon.

Pretty soon it was time to land in San Francisco. Overall it was a very enjoyable flight and as usual Singapore Airlines delivered again.

Bottomline:

Seat: *****

Service: *****

Food: ****1/2

The Singapore Airline First Class seats are very wide and make for a very comfortable seating. When laid into bed mode it is long enough to not have to fold your legs in any sleeping position. The bedding and pillows are very comfortable.

Where Singapore Airlines shines compared to other carriers is their excellent customer service. The crew were very efficient, friendly, courteous and very helpful. The excellent customer service was the highlight of the trip.

I am glad I chose the “Book the Cook” option as the lamb was really delicious and well prepared. I wish the caviar portions were a little larger though :).
