After breakfast at Hotel Katla we started driving towards the city of Hofn along the southern coast. We were going to cover about 275km today so it was going to be a long day.

We passed by the Eldhraun Lava fields. The moss covered lava fields was a sight to behold.

After driving for a while, we started seeing glaciers for the first time at a distance.

Soon we arrived at Jokulsarlon Glacial lagoon. I hadn’t pre-booked the Zodiac tour in time and it had been showing sold out for the previous 10 days. Then the amphibian boat tour started showing sold out or only 1 seat per time slot so was worried we might miss both opportunities at the lagoon. Luckily there were 2 spots available on the next amphibian boat tour and we were elated.

Volcanic ash on the iceberg provides a stark contrast

The glacier wall in Jokulsarlon has receded rapidly over the last few decades due to global warming. The amphibian boat moves quite slow and not enough time for it to make to the wall and only way to get close to the wall is on the zodiac boat.

After the tour was over we took some more pictures from the shore of the lagoon.

Then we walked under the bridge towards the sea to get to Diamond beach.

Obviously because it was peak summer time, little miniature icebergs were ashore on the beach.

We did the routine touristy thing to pose with the icebergs on the beach.

We were quite hungry by this point and saw a few vendors selling items like hotdogs, lobster sandwich, fish soup etc. We decided to try the lobster sandwich.

After we spent a few hours at Jokulsarlon and Diamond beach, we resumed our drive towards Hofn. Driving past Hofn we arrived at the Viking Cafe & Guesthouse where we paid the mandatory parking fee to enter the Stokksnes beach to see Vestrahorn.

After wandering around Stokksnes beach for a couple of hours we drove back towards Hofn to our hotel for the night (Guesthouse Dyngja). The guesthouse is located right on the harbor across Ishusid Pizzeria Restaurant where we ended up ordering a lobster pizza to-go, due to the very long wait.
