Flight: Finnair AY 1 from Helsinki to Los Angeles
Duration: 11 hours
Equipment: A359 (Airbus A350-900)
Class: Business
Seat: 2A (Window)
Seat Specification: Flat bed seats
This was my first ever Finnair flight and I was looking forward to flying it on the A350 with the recently redesigned Business class cabin. Finnair A350 has 30 Airlounge seats with 7 rows of 1 – 2 – 1 configuration and 2 seats in the middle as first row.
One thing I should add is that this seat is much more comfortable to sleep on than sit. Even though it looks very wide its not as comfortable to sit on as one might think looking at the photo.
Lunch was served all in one plate with both appetizers and entrée together. For appetizer I had Feta cheese with nettle pesto, apple gelee, pickled cherry tomatoes, cucumber. For entree it was roasted white fish with fennel cabbage stew, broccoli, brussels sprouts with vanilla Beurre Blanc.
The highlight of the meal was definitely the roasted white fish paired with Beurre blanc sauce. I am not sure if I had ever had it before but loved it and would like to try it more in the future.
After lunch I laid out the seat in bed mode and went to sleep. The seat is really good for sleeping unlike what I mentioned about sitting down.
Next meal was served about 2 hours before landing in LAX. It included fresh garden salad with cherry tomatoes, fresh fruit, Fig and pecorino cheese pasta with parmesan cheese. All items were really delicious!!
Bottomline:
Seat: ***1/2
Service: ***
Food: ****
The main issue with the seat is that it felt a little uncomfortable sitting on it although in bed mode it made for a great sleep. I was pleasantly surprised with the dining on this flight. I loved the roasted fish along with the pasta for dinner. Service was standard and neither bad nor memorable.
