Doubletree Resort by Hilton Hotel Phuket – Surin Beach

Doubletree Resort Phuket on Surin Beach is a Category 3 Hilton property located about 20 miles south of Phuket International Airport. The cab ride from the airport to this resort is around 700 THB. A free night at this resort costs 20,000 Hilton HHonors points.
After a quick check-in we were offered the Doubletree signature cookie, welcome drink and cold towels. Our check-in agent informed us that we were upgraded from King room to King suite (pool facing). Since both me and Karen are Hilton HHonors Gold elites, all four of us could have the complimentary buffet breakfast at the Asia Alive restaurant.
The suite was pretty big with nice hardwood floors.
One of the dining options on the property is the Champions Bar where we had lunch the first day.
For lunch we ordered some Hawaiian Pizza and Nachos. The pizza was not very good at all (lacked flavor big time) but the Nachos were really good.
There was a game area beside the Asia Alive restaurant and the steps leading to the pool.
When we arrived back at the hotel after spending a few hours at the beach in the evening, we had a fruit basket on the table in both our rooms.
We availed the complimentary Breakfast buffet at the Asia Alive restaurant. There was a wide selection of fruit, bread, juice, dessert as well as asian specialties like dim sum, egg noodles etc.
I tried Dragonfruit for the first time here and probably the last time. For a fruit with such a majestic name, it was very….lacking in any kind of taste….just blah.

- Nice resort for a Category 3 property and only costing 20,000 Hilton HHonors points
- Good breakfast buffet
- Not a beachfront property but only a 5 minute walk to the beach across the street.

- Not an ideal property for people loving quiet time/honeymooners. It seemed this resort get a lot of package tour travelers so there is a bit of raucous from time to time.
