Lower Sabie Rest Camp, Kruger National Park
Skukuza – Lower Sabie Rd, Mpumalanga, 1350, South Africa

Lower Sabie Rest Camp is located in southern Kruger in an area with perhaps one of the highest concentration of leopards in the wild. It is only about 35 km from Crocodile Bridge Camp Gate. The accommodations range from Campsites to Huts, Safari Tents, Bungalows, Family Bungalows to the luxurious Guest Houses. Pricing varies from USD $25/night for Campsite to USD $425/night for Guest House. Even though I booked the accommodations about 11 months out, due to availability issues we had to book 2 slightly different types of bungalows. Our bungalow was marketed as “BD2 (BUNGALOW): 2 single beds, Air-conditioned, Kitchenette on veranda, No smoking, WC and
shower” where as my parent’s was “BD3 (BUNGALOW): 3 single beds, Air-conditioned,
Fridge, Hotplate, No smoking, Sink, Utensils, WC and shower”. Pricing was the same for both types at about USD $100/night.

Thumbs up:

  • Very reasonably priced accommodation inside Kruger National Park
  • Kitchen area enclosed so can enjoy the space at night without mosquitoes (or monkeys who stole our food in both previous camps)
  • Excellent game rich area for Lions and especially Leopards. All but 1 of our leopard sightings were all close to this camp
  • Big lake right next to the camp has a large hippo and crocodile resident population
  • Pricing very reasonable for dining as well as convenience/souvenir shop.

Thumbs down:

  • Funky smell in both the rooms (possibly bugspray ??)
