Flight:  Japan Airlines JL 60 from Osaka to Los Angeles

Seat: 8A (Window)

This was my first ever Japan Airlines Business class flight and so was pretty psyched. The JAL Skysuite on 787-8 features 38 APEX Suites (similar to Korean Air). The seats are in 2 x 2 x 2 configuration with all seats having a direct aisle access.

The seat felt extremely private especially with the privacy divider up.

For pre-departure beverage I opted for champagne and while up in the air went with Japanese Sake.

I had read on several other blogs before that one must order Japanese meal at least once while flying a Japanese carrier.

First up was this bright, colorful plate of appetizers. I would look at the description on the menu and take a bite of the item. The items that I most enjoyed from the five pictured below were Big eye tuna with grated yam topped with trout roe (top left), Abalone and water shield with Japanese broth jelly (top right), conger eel roll with burdock/sweet simmered green plum/grilled cutlass fish with egg yolk/surf clam salad (bottom right).

Next up was entree consisting of salmon/white rice/miso soup/japanese pickles. I absolutely loved the salmon!

Dessert – Strawberry Mousse

After dinner when I tried to convert the seat to bed mode it would not recline. When I sought the flight attendant help, she was not able to make the buttons work either. Since the cabin was not completely full, I moved to an aisle seat that was unoccupied and that was my bed for the night.

Breakfast commenced about 2 hours before landing.

Breakfast – Scrambled Eggs, minestrone sauce, beef pastrami and sour cream potatoes

Bottomline:

Seat: *****

Service: *****

Food: *****

I loved the JAL Sky Suite Business Class product a lot. Every seat had a direct aisle access. The seat was very private, felt comfortable and made for a great night sleep when converted to bed.

The dining was absolute stellar with multiple menu items hitting the right spots. The crew was very attentive, friendly, cheerful throughout the duration of the flight and made for a great experience.
