Cathay Pacific operates 4 daily flights out of Los Angeles to Hong Kong and all of them are on Boeing 777-300ER. The Business class features 51 flat bed seats in 1 x 2 x 1 configuration i.e. all seats have direct aisle access. The seats are all laid out in reverse herringbone pattern.

The business class cabin is divided in 2 sections, the forward one has only 2 rows and then other has a long cabin with remaining number of seats. I wanted to select the forward cabin but the bulkhead row in forward cabin was unavailable when i went to select the seats.

I made my way to my seat 19A, located towards the front of the main business class cabin.

My seat – 19 A

The seat is spacious and has plenty of legroom.

Lots of legroom

The flight attendants came by with hot towels and then pre-departure beverage. I opted only for a glass of water at this time. Soon we were handed a dining menu.

Menu

Meal service started about half an hour after takeoff.

Appetizer – Fruit plate, Bread,

For entree, I opted for ling cod with hot bean sauce. The fish was delicious but i didn’t care much for the rest of it.

Dinner Entree

After dinner, I turned on the IFE and ended up watching Jupiter Ascending. It was ridiculously stupid and waste of 2 hours of my life that I will never get back !!

Next, I decided to take a good long night sleep.

The blanket that they provide in the business class cabin is of high quality and along with that and the nice flat bed, had a pretty good sleep for about 5 hours. After waking up, ended up watching another movie (The man from U.N.C.L.E). The movie is really good, typical Guy Richie fare.

Soon it was time for breakfast.

I was torn between Black Truffle Omelette and dim sum but ended up choosing the latter.

Breakfast – Fruit plate, Bagel and Cream Cheese
Breakfast – Noodles and Dim sum

After breakfast it was only about an hour left to land in Hong Kong.

Bottomline:

Seat: *****

Service: ****

Food: ****

The seat is really good. I have come to like the reverse herringbone pattern with direct aisle access. The only disappointment was the very ordinary quality of amenity bag + kit that they provide on this flight. The food was pretty good especially the noodle with dim sum. The service was ok. The flight attendants addressed me by name as well as were prompt in service. Another positive was the lack of language issues compared to the crew of other trans pacific carriers such as Eva Air or Asiana.
