Holiday Inn Express Rome – San Giovanni
Via Assisi 51 Rome, 00181, Italy

Holiday Inn Express Rome – San Giovanni is located a bit away from the historical center of Rome but available within convenient reach by metro. The hotel is located about 10 minutes walk from the Ponte Lungo metro station (Line A) and 5 minutes walk from Tuscolana Train station. Rome Termini station is only 5 stops away on metro Line A and one can get to and from Fiumicino airport by using FR 1 train that stops at Tuscolana station.

An IHG reward night redemption at this hotel costs only 20,000 points per night.

The Internet center is at the ground floor near the entrance to the hotel.

We had booked 2 rooms, each with a double bed (only type available for booking with points when I booked). Both the rooms were ok. Nothing fancy but functional. However, the interior of both rooms had a funky cigarette smell. I was allergic & sneezing the whole time I was at the hotel.

The bathroom was small with sink, toilet, bidet, stand-in shower without a bathtub.

There was a patio outside each room on our floor facing a courtyard.

The hotel being a Holiday Inn Express, has complimentary breakfast.

All in all, I would say this hotel has one of the better breakfasts compared to other Holiday Inn Express hotels I have stayed in the US.

Thumbs up:

  • Close to both a metro station (Ponte Lungo) and train station (Tuscolana).
  • Wide selection of items at the complimentary breakfast (at least compared to other Holiday Inn Express properties I have stayed before)

Thumbs down:

  • The neighborhood looked a little sketchy with graffiti on the walls everywhere. But it could be just that it was Rome :).
  •  Both our rooms had a funky smell and causing sneezing and allergies during my entire stay at the hotel.
