Flight: Thai Airways TG 607 from Hong Kong to Bangkok
Duration: 2 hours 40 minutes
Aircraft: B744 (Boeing 747-400)
Class: Business (Royal Silk)
Seat: 12A (Window, Upper Deck)
Seat Specification: Angled Flat, Seat pitch: 60.0 “. Seat width: 20 ”
Thai Airways operates multiple configurations of Boeing 747 and the specific configuration that operates on the Bangkok – Hong Kong route has the newer angled-flat seats instead of the old recliner seats. Last time I flew on the upper deck of the 747 was a couple of years back on a United Airlines flight 893 from San Francisco – Incheon.
Soon after boarding the aircraft, a stewardess requested my carry-on to stow it downstairs stating that the overhead cabin on the upper deck won’t accommodate a regular sized carry on !!

The seats do feel quite narrow for a business class seat.

The side-bin won’t fit any regular sized carry-on or some smaller sized carry-ons. Its ideal mostly for storing laptops and backpacks.

I opted for orange juice for pre-departure beverage (not in picture). Only after getting off the aircraft did I realize that I had forgotten to take pictures of the dinner menu 🙁 .

The salmon appetizer was really delicious. Just the right amount of moisture and flakiness. I also always like the garlic bread they serve on Thai.
For entree, I had pre-booked the Salmon with cream sauce & vegetables on the Thai website. They had around 6-8 dinner entree options available online. Big Mistake !! The sauce was a bit too rich & bland at the same time. I finished only about half of the salmon.

Bottomline:
Seat: ***
Service: ****
Food: ***
The angled flat seats are sufficient for this short-haul flight of around 2.5 hours. I did not test the seat in bed mode but it probably would have been okay. The seat was a bit narrow and would have liked a bit wider seats.
The salmon appetizer was very nice but the entree was not. I think its a good idea to order chicken/shrimp cooked Thai style instead of salmon/steak on this airline.
As far as service goes, I have always found it better than average when flying on Thai Airways. One thing I like flying on Thai compared to say Asiana/ Eva Air/ ANA is I have never faced any language issue so far. The Thai crew always understands my requests clearly.
