Cathay Pacific operates multiple daily flights between Los Angeles and Hong Kong and all of them are on Boeing 777-300 ER in 1 x 2 x 1 configuration with all seats having direct aisle access.
I had selected row 17 for my parents and next row for me and my wife.
Each seat provides plenty of privacy because of the angle of seats as well as the design of the headrest.
I declined pre-departure beverage as I had some at the Oneworld Lounge at the LAX airport. Interestingly, the crew did not hand out any menus for the flight. Meal service (Lunch) started soon after takeoff.
Me and Karen both opted for Steak with Gnocchi in sauce. The steak was the best I’ve ever had – both on and off the ground. It was tender, juicy, medium-rare and the sauce went with it really well.
After lunch I laid out the seat in bed mode and watched a couple of movies and then went to sleep.
While I slept through, Karen opted for dinner service before landing.
Bottomline:
Seat: *****
Service: ***
Food: ****
The seat is spacious, comfortable and right amount of firmness for a good night sleep for me. I prefer business class cabins with all seats having direct aisle access. I also like that the seat layout is at an angle (reverse-herringbone) as well as the design of the headrest gives enough privacy.
The service was mediocre and felt a little robotic. I cannot pin point any specific incident such as a stewardess not clearing table right away or anything like that but I felt that the service lacked warmth.
The post take-off lunch was superb. I had the best steak either on or off the ground ever!! The shrimp appetizer was very tasty as well. Unfortunately I had so much to eat for lunch that I did not opt for dinner service before landing but Karen said it was pretty good.
