Flight:  Korean Air KE 11 from Seoul to Los Angeles

Duration: 11 hours

Aircraft: A388(Airbus 380-800)

Class: Business (Prestige Class)

Seat: 20D (Middle row bulhead seat with direct aisle access in rear cabin)

Seat Specification: Flat Bed, Seat pitch: 74 “. Seat width: 21.6 ”

Korean Air operates both Airbus 380 and Boeing 777-300ER on Seoul – Los Angeles long-haul route. My flight was operated on a double-decker A380 with 2 x 2 x 2 configuration in business class throughout the upper deck. There are 3 cabins on the upper deck, all business class and I was in the rear cabin.

Dining Menu @ Korean Air Business Class

The dining menu was very underwhelming when you realize that there are 3 beef entrees out of 4 choices!! I chose Korean style “Bulgogi” as my main entree.

Mini tartlet with shrimp & Champagne
Marinated Scallop with eggplant
Chickpeas cream soup
Bulgogi beef with white rice

The Bulgogi was quite ordinary, clearly lacking much flavor.

Cheese plate
Haagen Dazs ice-cream
On-board Bar behind at the back of business class

I was having trouble falling asleep so went to the back of the rear-cabin where I requested a Vodka Collins from the FA acting as bartender. He poured me a very delicious drink and I can honestly say it was better than any Vodka Collins I had ever had on the ground!!

I laid out my seat in bed mode and went to sleep for about 5 hours.

The crew started serving breakfast about 2 hours before landing.

Orange Juice for breakfast
Fruit plate
Chive Omelette with roast potatoes, spinach and sausage

Bottomline:

Seat: ***

Service: ***

Food: **

I had the bulkhead seat in rear cabin without a seatmate so it wasn’t too bad. However, the product is not competitive any more for longhaul flights. Even though they advertise the seat as fully flat, it had a little kink in the middle and did not feel that comfortable. I still had an overall good night sleep.

The service was mediocre for the flight. I had similar experience on the previous BKK-ICN segment on Korean Air also.

I was very disappointed with the lack of menu choices on this flight. Whoever thought of putting 3 beef options out of 4 available? Among all the Asian carriers I have traveled in Business class so far, I would confidently put Korean Air at the bottom when it comes to catering.
