MilesPointsTravel Disclaimer: This review is solely the work of Karen. I personally did not fly this segment.

Ethiopian Airlines alternates between the older 737-800 Boeing and the newer 737 MAX 8 aircrafts. On this trip, it was the former with 4 rows of recliner seats in 2 x 2 configuration in business class. The aircraft interior looked worn out and in need of a refresh.

Lunch Appetizer – Salmon, potato salad and chickpea salad

I am not partial to smoked salmon but the other items were tasty. The highlight of meal service was the flight attendants bringing out the sampling tray (Ethiopian local cuisine).

Sampling Trays – Ethiopian bread, spinach, chicken and beef
Lunch – Ethiopian style Chicken, beef with bread

I declined the main entrée (chicken/beef/fish) as I was quite satisfied with the Ethiopian food.

Dessert – Strawberry mousse cake

Bottomline:

Seat: *1/2

Service: ***

Food: ***

For a short 4 hour flight, recliner seats were sufficient. The cabin on these old 737-800 aircraft looked old and pretty worn out though. The footrest wasn’t even working.

The Ethiopian bread with both the chicken and beef was very delicious. The gravy was aromatic and spicy and hit the right spots.

Service is very ordinary on Ethiopian airlines. The flight attendants always did the bare minimum and nothing beyond that.
