China Airlines operates a 777-300ER on its flight out of Los Angeles to Taipei. The business class has flat bed seats in 1 x 2 x 1 configuration in 2 different cabins with the forward cabin having 6 rows and 4 in rear cabin.
China Airlines (similar to the other Taipei based carrier EVA Air) makes available an expanded menu for business class travelers (although more limited choices) that can be reserved before flight. I had gone ahead and pre-booked my choices online instead of the onboard menu.
I’m not a huge fan of duck but the soup that followed the appetizer was quite tasty.
I had never had black rice risotto before and was apprehensive about it. But this entree was probably one of 5 best meals I have had in the sky. The fish was tasty and the flavor enhanced by the coconut curry sauce. The black rice risotto was nutty and flavorful and went great with it. It was all around a fantastic dish.
Bottomline:
Seat: **** 1/2
Service: ***
Food: ****1/2
The flat bed seat in 1 x 2 x 1 mode is the standard for a competitive business class product these days. In that way the seats on China Airlines did not disappoint. The cushion was firm for a great night sleep and I would not hesitate to fly them again.
The food was excellent for both the dinner as well as breakfast. The biggest star was the Miso Cod in coconut cream sauce. Definitely one of top 5 meals I have had in the sky.
