Flight:  United Airlines UA 926 from San Francisco to Frankfurt

Duration: 11 hours 10 minutes

Equipment: B773(Boeing 777-300ER)

Class: Business

Seat: 1L(Window)

Seat Specification: Open Suites, Seat pitch: 78″, Seat width: 22 ”

I have flown United Business Class product a few times in the past ranging from the upper deck on a 747 (my first Business Class flight) to a 2 x 2 configuration on a Boeing 767-300 on Transatlantic route (IAH-MUC) to a 2 x 4 x 2 configuration on a Boeing 747 lower deck (FRA-SFO). This was my first time trying the real United Polaris product. Seatguru advertises the business class cabin on Polaris as “Open Suite” and I can see why. It is very private if you are seated on the window seats (alternating seats where the arm rest is away from the window).

I had selected the bulkhead row right when I booked the ticket and I was very happy with my choice. The seat is extremely private and when seated you cannot see anyone in the cabin.

Polaris Business Class Dining Menu
Spicy Sobo buckwheat noodles, Seared turbot fish fillet with maltaise sauce

I did not care much for the appetizer but the main fish entrée was delicious. The fish was moist and flaky and very flavorful with the sauce. One of the best sea-food I had up in the air.

Vanilla Ice-cream with Chocolate Fudge – Tasted way better than it looks

After dinner, I watched a movie for an hour and then converted the seat to bed and slept soundly for about 7 hours. The seat cushion is very comfortable and I did not even wake up for the entire time I was sleeping.

Flight attendant woke me up about 30 minutes before landing and I missed out on breakfast. I was quite full from previous dinner anyways but glad I had a great night sleep.

Bottomline:

Seat: *****

Service: ***

Food: ****

After flying United Polaris, it has become the top 3 Business class product now (the first spot still belongs to Qatar Airways Qsuites obviously!!). The seat is very comfortable and private.

I have mixed feelings about the service. Towards the beginning of the flight, I was getting a bit of weird vibes from the flight attendant (being aloof, slightly uninterested in service) but towards the end of the flight it kind of went away as the flight attendant came by to chit chat and just being nice and all.

The highlight of meal service was the terrific fish entrée. The ice-cream sundae for dessert was delicious too.

Overall, if given the option to fly United Polaris, it will always be one of the top choices on TATL-TPAC flights.
